Alleycats and Critical Mass

Brian McGloin

Later today, I’ll be in Manhattan again for another Critical Mass ride. Its a month later, warmer, brighter.
I hope the NYPD backs off a little – I honestly don’t want to be arrested and I don’t want others to be either. Critical Mass isn’t about riots and anarchism (or other incendiary, inflamatory and plain Wrong words the NYPD, FBI, CIA use … ) its abot riding bikes and promoting non-polluting transport in the City.

The protest groupie element is always present, but they’re everywhere.

In other news, there is some problem with my registered URL, brianmcgloin.org, so I changed the link to the right to reflect that – my URL mirrors the Mac-hosted Website. Yahoo, where the URL is/was hosted, had changed their Web services around to the point where the information on my URL (or how to change where it mirrors) was no longer visible. Through some glitch, everything worked fine for a while. Well, maybe it wasn’t a glitch.

I received a notice I now remember forgetting about – or maybe ignoring – about Web hosting through Yahoo or about my URL expiring. Well, the other day, brianmcgloin.org wasn’t working. I’ve had that address since I lived in Ridgefield …

Next week, I’ll look into re-registering it.

Saturday I’ll enter my first alleycat, a semi-legal (if at all) bike race through city streets. They’re also known as bike messenger races. This one is in New Haven but they can be in any city anywhere – NYC has the biggest ones.
Here is a little more information: http://www.messengers.org/main.html – its a little tough to get through. I can provide more information if need be … look for a write-up and some photos of the race and also Critical Mass.

I’m shooting the CM on black & white film (ooollld Arista 400, loaded from bulk, @ asa 1600) so give me a few days to develop and scan. I’ll also use my handy little digital point and shoot camera either hand-held or strapped to my bike. I shot the last CM partially this way. The phone cam will be in use, also.

Lastly, my nearly-severed left index finger is healing. Its still partially numb and moves a little funny but I’m lucky to have it.

Alright, thank you for reading.
