Fog and the Park City

Brian McGloin

A covering of morning fog rests on the roof tops here in the Park City. An unusual quiet grinds through the streets below – punctuated by the occasional singing birds. Well, maybe a lot of singing birds.

The weather forcast is for a moderate chance of thunderstorms this evening. That may be a problem since I’ll be in New York for this month’s Critical Mass. I have to make a decision about the weather soon – do I run fenders on my bike? Pack rain gear? If the weather holds out, this month’s ride should be huge.

About Critical Mass: My past few posts have just been about that and not the other ranting and heavily one-sided screeds about the GOP, white trash and other filth. Every week the GOP (aka Big Oil) does something else worthy of a lengthy Prison sentence or at least impeachment but no one cares … or they think its just partisan jabs by that oh so liberal Media. Right. Yea, sure.
If I don’t write about the lefty/Pinko/Unamerican (or whatever they call it this week) stuff then … well, I have to actually write about something not in the news already.
OK. No big deal. I have lots of decent writing about all kinds of things – road trips, music, people … maybe it is a big deal. Maybe I’m looking for the Perfect Subject for which to write. That doesn’t exist. I don’t want to write about personal stuff nor do I want to pen a screed about what I ate for breakfast or my ride to work.
Critical Mass seems to be good subject matter. Mike Green does a fantastic job writing about the NYC Critical Mass as well as other NYC bike and non-bike events from Times Up!. He writes about the abundance of alleycats and other bike-related mayhem in a loquatious style that’s funny where it should be and angry where it needs to be. If you have a moment, and even of you hate bikes, read his blog. Or at least read about what he’ll write about tonights Critical Mass.
Speaking of alleycats – they’re bike messenger style bike races generally through urban areas – there is going to be one in Bridgeport on 03 June. Next Saturday starting at 6 pm at Seaside Park in the Bandshell.

Arsenal of Democracy alleycat 03 June

I’m one of the co-organizers along with a guy named Matt. He came up with most of the check points. He’s a mad man, a total psycho. This will be a motherfucker of a race. Racers will wake up with mysterious tatoos, maybe missing teeth, dead hookers in the living room and a taxi crashed in the front yard. We’re planning an after party of sorts at Captian’s Cove. Well, its more like we’re going to show up there after – nothing is really planned.
I joked with Matt about having sprints from one end of Railroad Avenue to the other and maybe back. He suggested having it after AOD race during the after party.

What a great idea … wait for the drinking people to get shithoused and then race down one of the most brutal, darkest streets in the Abandoned City in the dark, on a weekend while the driving people are also shitfaced.
There will be blood, broken bikes, dashed dreams, mayhem, abductions – racers returning a month later not remembering a zombified state of mass killing and looting – criminal investigations. In other words – a fantastic race.

This should be fun. I can’t wait – will you be there?
